In an exclusive for the New York Post, Larry Brooks reports that the Rangers are among a handful of NHL teams that will be watching Peter Forsberg very closely when the 36-year-old free-agent center tests his chronically injured right foot in the Karjala Cup tournament that opens today in Sweden..."Yes, we have interest in Forsberg," GM Glen Sather said. "From the reports we've been getting, the foot is much better than it was a year ago.
"We'll scout him at the tournament and see what, if anything develops. But I've always liked Peter and I've always been interested in finding a way to bring him to New York, if possible."
...somebody please tell me why the Rangers are always interested in old, expensive, broken down veterans? See Lindros, Sundin and Shanahan.
...thankfully for Ranger fans the NHL does have a salary cap making a Forsberg signing virtually impossible for the Blueshirts.

I mean I wouldn't mind signing him if it were for next to nothing. What do you have to lose? If he's healthy, a line of Forsberg, Prospal, and Gaborik could be worth a ton of points not just on the score sheet but in the standing too. Hey, I can dream too, right?
They can get him for like no money. It'd be great having him on the third line. Imagine? Just like Fedorov playing on the Caps' third or fourth line.
I think you guys are under estimating the amount of money Forsberg is going to ask for.
I'm against the Rangers getting veterans to fill holes that up-and-coming youngsters might fill. But as long as Forsberg doesn't displace Anisimov in the lineup, then really why not? Especially if he's healthy and signs a modest, short-term deal. At this point, anything to get more balanced scoring would be a step in the right direction.
