Rangers 2, Capitals 1 (NYR 3-1)

The New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals by the score of 2-1, tonight and now have a 3-1 series lead in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match-up. For a recap and box score go to Yah00! Sports.

...Mike Richter is the standard to which Rangers goalies are compared, but I don't think Richter ever put up a playoff performance like we saw out of Lundqvist tonight. The Rangers played the final two periods like they were down a man and Lundqvist is the only reason the Rangers won tonight. Just filthy.

...which makes me wonder, what happened after the first period? The Rangers came out like a house on fire, but from the point Drury scored the second goal they played like they did under Tom Renney where they just hold on and hope Lundqvist can bail them out. Luckily for the Rangers, Lundqvist was super human tonight.

...i've been one of Sean Avery's biggest supporters all year, but if he continues to take stupid penalties the way he did tonight he can't be out there. Period.

...while Lundqvist was the obvious story tonight, another major reason for the win was the penalty kill which went 6-for-6. There were times when the pk unit couldn't even skate they were so tired, but they bared down and made the big play when they had to.

...Dubinsky & Korpikoski had Callahanesque type games tonight. They were all over the ice and made all the little plays that need to be made to win playoff games.

...i said earlier today that I trusted Tortorella to make the right decision regarding Drury and boy did he do that as Captain Clutch comes up with the big goal.

...i think Zherdev might have seen his last start of the series. Calling Artem Anisimov.

...Rangers can clinch this thing in Washington on Friday.

normally i'd agree on the Renney "prevent D" sentiment, but like i was telling my buddy during the game, against such a fast, offensively talented team like washington its a fine line; cant give them too much room, but too agressive and you're f*cked

NYR Blogger, watching on TV you could tell how much more hyped up the crowd was last night than on Monday. Awesome stuff.
