Hurricanes 4, Rangers 2

The New York Rangers (40-29-9) lost to the Carolina Hurricane (43-28-7) by the score of 4-2, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

...the story of the game as its been all season is the failure on the power play. 1-for-7 including an 0-for-4 in the first period when the Hurricanes gave the Rangers every opportunity to seize control of the game. I don't want to say the Blueshirts chances of holding on to a playoff spot are bleak, but its starting to look that way.

...despite the power play's failures the Rangers were in a great position tied at two going into the third. But as its been since Tortorella's taken over, the Blueshirts, once again, got outplayed in the third period. Under Tortorella the Rangers have been outscored in the third period 20-11 while going 2-for-27 on the power play.

...biggest game of the year and the Rangers only get goals from Potter (Congrats on the first goal kid) and Girardi. Um Drury? Gomez? Redden? Any veteran leaders want to step up?

...first real big mistake from Antropov since his arrival on the Hurricanes third goal. Terrible give away in the neutral zone then he loses LaRose on the goal. Didn't help that, as usual, Redden just stood there and watched Jokinen's pass sail right past him.

...that's the last time I root for the Islanders as they lay a complete egg in getting bombed by the Canadiens 5-1. The Rangers are now in eighth place only two points up on the ninth place Panthers, who have a game in hand.

...off tomorrow then on to Boston for a matinee against the first place Bruins.

I'm looking forward to the 09-10 season.

So I guess that win against the Devils was because the Devils are sliding, not because the Rangers dominated.

Avery, though he had a bunch of shots and created a few chances, took a dumbass penalty when he grabbed the goalie's helmet. Come on, man.

Drury has to catch that pass by antropov in the neutral zone on the third goal, but antropov did lose Larose at the end of the play i definitely agree there, and agree whole heartedly with the comment about redden on the third goal, standing in the middle of the slot on nobody, instead of guarding jokinen in the circle, and then throws a weak stickcheck at the puck carrier.. typical wade redden, he is an abortion.. if that 3rd goal doesnt happen the game is completely winnable, played an ok game besides the pitiful powerplay, need to get that going
