Gaborik Elects for Surgery

TSN is reporting that Minnesota Wild forward Marian Gaborik has elected to have surgery on his injured hip. The surgery is scheduled for Monday and will keep him out a minimum of 10 weeks.

With Gaborik becoming a UFA at the end of the year and speculation that he won't re-sign with the Wild it looks like Minnesota won't be able to get anything for him at the trade deadline.

...if the Rangers aren't able to re-sign both Dubinsky and Zherdev due to their salary cap issues maybe Sather would be able to sign Gaborik on the cheap due to him coming off of surgery.

dubinsky has had an awful year after what was a fast start...why woouldnt you think the Rangers would be able to find cap room for him...I think the bigger problem is finding cap space for callahan

The fact that Dubinsky has really put up any solid numbers this year, helps the Rangers b/c. They'll be able to re-sign him. I think Zherdev will stay as well and if a team decides to poach him I think compensation is 1st and a 3rd.

Gaboriks price definitely has gone down the past month or so. With the economy the way it is people aren't going to shell out the big bucks for a guy who may only play half the season.

A lot of players have the so-called sophmore slump. I wouldn't be surprised if Dubinsky recieved a big offer sheet that the Rangers might have trouble matching. And yes Callahan might cost the Rangers a bit as well.

I believe that Gaborik will be a UFA this summer.

And yes, the only possible positive that one can take away from Dubinsky not producing as much is that his price could possibly go down, although I could definitely see Sather cutting a shrewd deal with Dubinsky, giving him more money than he is worth right now over a longer period of time, something like 5-6 years at 3.5 million. While we would be overpaying based on what Dubinsky has given us so far, if he develops into the player he is projected to be, he will be cheap in the latter years of the contract.

Thats true, but at the very most Dubinsky gets between $2-3 million a year. Unless he has a huge second half. He'll probably get a contract similar to O'Sullivans.
