In the response section of a blog post at the
Rangers Report today, Rick Carpiniello informs Rangers fans that Wade Redden cannot be waived or sent down to Hartford until the preseason meaning they won't be able to open up cap space to make a big splash this off-season.
From the research I've done this has to do with terms under the collective bargaining agreement.
...just when you think it can't get any worse with this guy you find out the Rangers can't even dump his salary when it would be beneficial to them.

I believe that they are allowed to go into camp over the cap and just have to make it by the first game. So if they plan on ditching Redden, well, so be it, sign away.
ahh thank you again sather.
wow we should have sent him down before the season ended, everytime i look at his face im disguested we paid so much for a playr with such little heart...
dear wade...
if your still with this organization this coming season, we all will understand if you cant put up points on the board...but at least drop the gloves and add some grit...its the least you can do for a team thats paying you 8 mill (only 6.5 on the cap) a year.
not only was the signing horrendous..i cant imagine how redden feels...8 mill a year for 24 points?? you would think that would tear him up a bit and make him play with some toughness at least...
DO SOMETHING WITH THE PUCK OR YOUR KNUCKLES WADE OR GET THE **** OUTTA HERE
Is that solely demoting him to Hartford, or buying him out as well? I'd hate to have the cap hit, but at least it'd be something.
I believe "Scotty Hockey" is correct and that the cap is enforced by opening day - this allows teams to sign players and shuffle their rosters around before the start of the season.
Either way, you are assuming that Sather and Dolan and the rest of the knuckle-heads running that team are even WILLING to send him to Hartford after what they paid him. As such, the salary cap is the least of our worries in dumping off Wade-tard
not that it makes Redden any less of a terrible acquisition, but his albatross contract only costs us around $6.5 million a year. think the cap hit is equal. if im wrong, then that this is just absurd. but ive never heard that number of $8 mil per
