Anyone Want Theodore?

Jim Matheson at the Edmonton Journal reports that the Washington Capitals will let goaltender Jose Theodore walk this summer.

...with all indications that the Rangers are not re-signing Auld (what's he going to do with that awesome mask?), if Theodore is available I think the Rangers should make a play for him.

...obviously he'd have to take a huge pay cut (he made $4.5 million last season) and a reduction in playing time. But I don't see too many teams who'd be throwing a starting job at a guy who's been yanked after Game 1 of the playoffs two years in a row.

...for the Rangers they'd finally have a back-up they'd feel comfortable giving 30-35 games to rest Lundqvist.

Even if Hank gets a little more rest next year, 30-35 for his backup is really high. Ideally Hank plays around 65 games, with the back up starting 17, and add a couple onto that in relief.

Jose Three-or-more? No thanks. I'd rather call up DosNueve or keep Auld

Theodore is better than Auld. If he's willing to take a pay cut, I'd sign him.

no way Hank sits for 30-35 games, that's shared responsibilities in net territory. I also don't see theodore putting himself in a situation here, my bet is he signs with a team like LA or Philadelphia. I'd rather Johnson be given 25 starts next year at this level than anything else, really.
