Rangers Dropping Wolfpack

Matthew Coller at The Biz of Hockey reports that the Rangers will likely change their AHL affiliation from the Hartford Wolfpack to the Rochester Americans beginning in the 2011-’12 season...

"...the Rangers, who reside approximately six hours from Rochester, are unhappy with their relationship with the Wolfpack and are very interested in becoming the parent club of the Americans."

...not sure how this whole transfer works. Are they moving everyone from Hartford to Rochester except for ownership? But according to Wikipedia, MSG owns the Wolfpack. Then if ownership also stays the only thing that changes is location. How does that change the relationship with the team? Very confused.

...if someone can explain this to me I'd appreciate it.

...h/t to reader Mike for the link.

Clearly the Dolans, as the owners of the Wolfpack, are pissing off the Dolans, as owners of MSG. It is the Dolans after all. They piss off EVERYONE.

I would love to see this team move to Albany, NY

The Rangers are likely unhappy due to lack of attendance and the loss of money. It might be more lucrative for them to work with a separately owned AHL team, a la the Rochester Americans.

This has me REALLY excited, I'm a NYR fan from Winnipeg, Manitoba. This would put some rangers prospects in the same division as the Manitoba Moose. The Wolfpack didn't even play the moose last year. Lets face it, hockey games are not to easy to catch 1600 miles away...
