The New York Rangers (4-1-0) defeated the Anaheim Ducks (2-2-1) by the score of 3-0, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.
...when the Rangers started out on fire last year, I think every Ranger fan agreed they were doing it with smoke and mirrors and it was only a matter of time until they came down to earth. And we were all right. However, this year, the Blueshirts have a different feel to them. They have scoring, a power play, goaltending and the latest piece Sean Avery.
...i'm not sure every Ranger fan is sold on Valiquette being able to handle an increased workload this year. But if he can play like he did tonight all year long the Rangers will not only be giving him starts to spell Lundqvist they'll be giving him starts because he deserves them.
...welcome back Sean Avery. Vintage "grate one" when he gets up after Niedermayer levels him behind the net and yaps at the former Devil in reaction to Anisimov's goal. Classic.
...Del Zotto and Kotalik continue to make the Rangers power play run. I cringe to think that if the Blueshirts didn't have those two, the point men would be Redden and Rozsival. Yuck.
...nice to see Anisimov starting to get comfortable with the speed of the NHL game. If he continues to progress he might end up surpassing Drury as the second line center.
...there is no one more snake bitten than Higgins right now. 13 shots on goal the last three games and nothing to show for it. Keep your head up Chris they'll start to fall.
...right back at it tomorrow night against the Maple Leafs.

Another great game.
I realize this is slightly off topic, but does anyone else think they clock is ticking on Sanguinetti? He was slated to make the team but was edged by a kid older than him and a kid younger him. I have a hunch that if he doesn't crack the lineup by Febuary he will be on the block. What a shame, but with the organizational depth in D, I can see why they would do this.
He'll be buried even deeper this year if the Rangers bring in a veteran d-man for the 7th defense spot. He could end up as trade bait come deadline time.
