Rangers Eyeing Demitra

Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that Glen Sather is so anxious for top-six forward help, he’s looking at acquiring injured Canucks winger Pavol Demitra once he gets healthy.

Demitra has scored 301 goals over a 15-year career, but hasn’t played this season after complications from off-season shoulder surgery forced a second operation. He hopes to return after Christmas.

Garrioch adds that Demitra and Marian Gaborik are best friends and played together in Minnesota.

On the Rangers interest in making a move...

“They want to do something,” said a league executive. “They are talking to everybody right now.”

...an injured, overpriced, aging forward. Sounds like a Sather move. Since you can't see me, I am in fact shaking my head.

Also, Pierre LeBrun at ESPN names the Rangers as a possible trade destination for the Lighning's Vinny Lecavalier.

oh god no....frankly, we don't need moves for the immediate future, once Dubinsky returns, his presence will act as a a stabilizing force on the team, rounding out the top line and moving players back to their natural positions. I don't understand why Demitra is necessary or where he would even fit in the lineup...

Lecavalier would be an terrible move and I don't see it happening. His cap hit is just unreal. Everyone face it, until we get rid of the stupid contracts for redden, rozy and our fierce captain we will be lacking players worth that money and will never be in the elite category.
