Is This The Real Zherdev?

Scott Burnside at ESPN.com wonders how a player that was characterized as an enigmatic and lazy in Columbus has been the perfect fit with the Rangers...

One of the knocks on Zherdev in Columbus, apart from a wild swing in game-to-game performances, was his awkward relationship with his teammates. In New York, Renney said he's seen Zherdev become part of the mix, the butt of typical pranks and barbs, a sign of positive integration. "He's got a great attitude. He's happy as heck," Renney said.

...not sure what went on over in Columbus. Maybe Zherdev was still learning the game with no veterans to show him the ropes, maybe he didn't like Hitchcock or maybe the team just stunk and he took a lot of the blame.

...to me the Russian players love the spotlight. And now that Zherdev is in New York he can display his talents on the biggest stage. In Columbus playing in front of sparse crowds in a college football town had to be difficult for him to get motivated every night. I've also heard that Zherdev is much more comfortable in New York because of the large Russian community in New York City.

...whatever it is I really don't care as long as he's contributing to the success of this franchise.
