Steve Zipay at Newsday spoke with assistant general manager Jim Schoenfeld about Matt Gilroy's demotion to Hartford...
Schoenfeld said Gilroy's game had been...
"chinking down, in small increments, not just one thing, his entire game, all season. Probably the biggest area of concern was winning one on one battles, closing checks out with strength or speed or guile."
He then added...
"We still have high expectations," said Schoenfeld. "Some things can’t be overlooked unless you’re putting up tremendous numbers and six points is not…It’s part of the process that a lot of first-year players go through, they come into camp in tremendous condition and get a head start and then the league kind of catches up with some people."
...trust me I understand the move, but to see this happen to Gilroy while watching the Rangers send Rozsival out there every night seems a bit unfair.
...i also can't figure out the quick about face. As early as last week the Rangers trusted Gilroy enough to be paired with two rookies making their NHL debuts, now they think he'd be better suited in Hartford? This is similar to what's going on with Anisimov. The guy center's the top line Sunday night and has praise heaped on him by Torts, then is only given nine minutes of ice time last night. These mixed messages can't be good for a young player's confidence.
On why Ilkka Heikkinen is staying...
"Size helps him," said Schoenfeld. "He’s a little more physical and can play both the left and right sides, right now he’s a good fit."
...now hopefully Torts will give Heikkinen more than nine minutes of play.

The team is a joke. Gilroy wasn't even the worst defenseman on the team. It is a little extreme sending him down. I thought he was playing okay. I like that Heikkinen is physical I still haven't really seen enough of him to judge.
Torts is getting on my nerves now. At least under Renney they were a good defensive team. Torts wanted to bring a more offensive system. Now they are bad offensively and defensively. The only thing they are good at is killing penalties.
You are right about Anisimov one game he is on the top line next game he is on the third line. None of Torts line combinations are working. The players have no chemistry with there linemates because he keeps switching them every game. He even took Duby off the first line for no good reason before he got hurt.
But he doesn't switch Drury and Callahan they been doing nothing together all year long. There not even getting scoring chances but they continue to play together.
And Boyle is 6'7 the dude is huge. Keep him on the wing and have him screen the goaltender and look for deflections that might help the scoring.
