Rangers Need to Slow it Down

Pat Sullivan at The Bleacher Report says...

"This is where the New York mentality kills. The Rangers are pressured to constantly change their formula season after season. Fans are not happy with a winning record, a playoff berth and an early exit.

They want rings. Now.

The Rangers frantically shift through their additions with no avail. The turnover rate is almost as high as Wal-Mart’s.

In order to advance further in the playoffs, the Rangers need to be consistent. Every year does not merit a new free agent. They should also grow more reliant on the Hartford Wolf Pack, their AHL affiliate.

The Blue Shirts need to slow it down. Every summer they do not need to beef up for a Cup run."

...I know the Rangers went out and signed the two top free agents last year, but they have become more reliant on Hartford as seen by the playing time given to all the youngsters this year.

...I feel that the Rangers organization and the media misrepresent Ranger fans. We can wait out a rebuilding process as long as the team on the ice is playing hard. The Ranger fan gets angry and anxious when management continues to bring in high price talent and the team still flops. If the Rangers didn't go out and get Gomez and Drury last year, held onto Nylander and the Rangers still lost in the second round Ranger fans would have had a completely different reaction. We would have been excited to have gotten that far with all the rookies in the line-up and we'd really be looking forward to next year. But when you bring in high priced talent expectations are different. So to me it's more of the fans reacting to what managment is putting on the ice. If you tell us its a rebuilding process we'll wait it out, but if you tell us you're in "win now" mode well you better win now.

Speak for yourself, I would not have been happy if they resigned Nylander. Gomez and Drury, along with Lundqvist and Staal will be the core of the team for many years to come. Both were good signings for the long term stability of the club, we just need to rid ourselves of the Jagr regime to take a step forward. I am not saying Jagr is a bad player or that he did not play well for us, but Jagr has one style of Play, and Gomez and Drury have another. It's time to bring in players who reflect the Gomez/Drury style.

I don't think you understood where I was going with that comment. I wasn't criticizing the Gomez/Drury signings (I am a big fan of those signings), I was merely pointing out that if the Rangers organization had decided to retain Nylander instead of signing Gomez & Drury and the Rangers season still ended in the second round I think the fans reaction to the season would have been more positive because the expectations would have been lower. When you bring in a Gomez and a Drury fans expect to go much further in the playoffs.

The point of my post was that Ranger fans are the most intelligent fans in hockey and we have realistic expectations based on the product on the ice. You give us a great team we expect great things, you give us a project we'll watch it grow.

I am not sure how intelligent some Fans are.... I believe I read more than a fw times on this site to fire the head coach Tom Renney.
Clearly, that must have been emoition getting the worst of some fans.

I agree with Anonymous, and have said it during the season, its time to let Jagr go, and let the DRury/Gomez reign begin. The Rangers need to play North/South hockey and crash the net.

Lets Go Rangers!!
Is it October yet?
