Rangers Cleaning House?

Larry Brooks at The New York Post reports that Glen Sather has no intention of signing any of the Rangers five significant impending unrestricted free agents prior to July 1 leaving all of them to solicit offers...

"The GM has not made a post-season offer to any of the aforementioned athletes. And while Sather most certainly will check in with Jagr - who has heard sounds of silence loudly and clearly - and with Shanahan, it appears increasingly likely Avery will not be invited to return and that the team will seek to replace Rozsival."

Brooks goes on to report that Darcy Tucker might be brought in to replace Avery and the Rangers will go hard after Brian Campbell (a friend of Chris Drury's), as well as Wade Redden and Brooks Orpik. Brooks doesn't see the Rangers signing a free agent winger instead he says the Rangers could trade for either the Sharks' Jonathan Cheechoo, Kings' Mike Cammalleri or Vancouver's Ryan Kesler.

Brooks also says contrary to reports, the Rangers have not actively sought to improve their 20th overall draft position.

Sam Weinman at the Rangers Report comments on Brooks' article here.

...wow, this is crazy stuff. And to tell you the truth, with the exception of not re-signing Avery, I don't mind that Sather is doing this. There's nothing wrong with him deciding its time to move-on from the Jagr era and cutting ties with these older wingers.

...back to Avery. I'm going to be so pissed if we have Tucker instead of Avery next year.
