Rangers Given Permission to Talk with Campbell

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports...

"The window has opened early on Brian Campbell's free agency, and the Rangers have been given permission to take a peek.

Actually, the Rangers have been granted permission by San Jose GM Doug Wilson to do more than peek. The Post has learned that the New York Rangers have been authorized to talk with the impending free-agent defenseman, an opportunity of which Glen Sather is believed to have already taken advantage."

Brooks says that Campbell is looking for $6.5-7 million per season. And also reports that Sather rejected a four-year, $20M proposal from Michael Rozsival.

...we have a lot of needs and I don't think it would be smart to sign Campbell for $7 million a year.
