Rangers to Target Streit

According to Eklund at HockeyBuzz...

"So Mark Streit is therefore tied with Brian Campbell as the highest scoring defenseman in the current UFA marketplace...

...All I know is that there are teams out there that may give him 5 per in this UFA market that is light on IMPACT guys but glistening with difference makers...I do believe that the Rangers, Sabres and Oilers may all be willing to top 5...

...the one thing the Habs have right now is an amazing power play, and Streit on the point is key to that."

...I can't believe I'm back posting links to HockeyBuzz. Man I wish the Rangers were still in the playoffs.

...back to Streit. I really like this guy. I had him on my fantasy hockey team this year and he was sick. 13 goals (7 on the power play) and 49 assists (27 on the power play). I think we can use production like that on the power play.

...he did spend some time at forward which may make his numbers a bit misleading, but the guy can score on the power play and that's what we need.

If he spent some time at forward, that was probably because he is very good offensively, and not so great defensively. Teams don't play their defensemen at forward just for the hell of it. Those offensive statistics look great on the surface, but the fact that Montreal played him at forward for more than just a few games should make Sather & Co. wary of the defensive side to his game.

That's very true as evidenced by his -6 on a team that outscored its opponents by 40 goals during the regular season. But man I do like his offense.
