Rangers Making No Effort to Re-Sign Orr

In yesterday's Larry Brooks article in the New York Post he reports...

"The Rangers, by the way, have made no effort to re-sign Colton Orr, who will have no trouble at all scoring a multi-year deal within hours of the opening of the market. We’re told Florida is keenly interested in the heavyweight."

...for Orr's importance to the Rangers see Game 6 of the Rangers first round loss to the Capitals this year and two years ago against the Flyers (Shanahan concussion game) when the Rangers were pounded from one end the ice to the other. The similarity: No Orr in the line-up.

I'm personally torn over Orr, but I can understand why the team might let him go, they are probably looking to have Dane Byers or Brodie Dupont replace him and build a new 4th line:
Byers/Dupont-Betts-Sjostrom

I could see this either way, Orr is very loyal and always looks to start things. Plus, he learned this year to contain himself a little and took less stupid penalties, but at 27 you might think the team wants to look the other way

BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

we need him, besides the obvious entertainment value he is the only player that strikes any fear in our opponents

The definition of "the fighting role" has change over the last few years. You need to be able to skate and handle the puck and battle (re: Brashear sucks). Orr has shown improvement over the last few seasons. The Rangers are in the NE, a tough-ass division, we need a guy like him on the fourth line. He's a dude that will step to ANYONE if a "marquee" player is F'd with. Yeah, we don't need guys like Cally and Dubie fighting, they need to score and create plays, Orr can kinda do both. I say sign him for pretty much whatever he wants.

Jack, what games are you watching? Orr can't score or create plays.

"kinda" He keeps the puck deep and grinds it out in the corners on a good day.

Ranger fan for 40 yrs this yr. CANNOT for the life of me figure why Ranger Mgmt has never understood value of intimiation and defending against it. Why? Why? Rangers have only won when combining skill with toughness: Hadfield/early 70's; Nicky & Beck/late 70's early 80's; Domi,Kocur,Beuke,Wells,Graves/Promised Land. If Orr being reasonable, SIGN HIM NOW!!! There's room for him AND Dupont, etc. if they can play as well....
