NHL Snipers reports that the Rangers have offered a package of players for Dany Heatley including...
"SCOTT GOMEZ, RYAN CALLAHAN, DAN GIRARDI, 19TH OVERALL PICK, 80TH OVERALL PICK"
...i know nothing about this site, but this rumor sounds very Eklundesque.
Speaking of possible off-season transactions The Manic Ranger would like to see the Rangers land Ian Laperrier, while Scotty Hockey has his eye on a Petr Sykora/Rangers reunion.

That's steep, but guys like Girardi and Callahan and picks would be needed to sweeten the deal, since Gomez's salary takes value away from him. Anisimov would have to be ready for this trade to even be considered.
The Rangers cannot get rid of Callahan. He is one of, if not the most, hard working consistant player we've got. He is like the Energizer Bunny....he keeps going and going and going.
why would we need to sweeten a deal for Heatley? The guy is just as inconsistant as Gomez and makes more money. We would be trading the only guy who can get Heatley the puck in Gomez and the only guy who is willing to go to the boards and get Gomez the puck in Callahan. This would be a New York Knicks type of deal if it was made. HORRIBLE..
you actually linked that clown?
I agree this deal is too steep,i can see trading contracts gomez for heatley. If we start just giving away players like Callahan and Girardi we'll be The Knicks on ice.
A few things regarding Heatley:
The reason we would need to add other players is because Heatley is much, much better than Gomez, but they make the same money. If Gomez made what he is actually worth, around 5 million, then Ottawa might do that because they while they would be acquiring less talent, they would be getting an affordable 2nd line center and they would be gaining cap relief. But because Gomez makes the money he does and doesn't have the talent to show for it, other younger and talented players would need to be added to make up for the gap in talent.
Secondly, why the hell would any Ranger fan not want this guy? In 4 out of his 6 1/2 years (he only played 31 games in 03/04 after the accident) he has scored 39 goals or more, included two 50 goal seasons. He has 543 NHL points in just 507 NHL games. He has 35 playoff points in 34 playoff games. He would instantly give us the scoring winger we so desperately need, and would probably make Drury a 30 goal, 70 point player again. His +/- for his career is +47, and he played on some terrible Atlanta teams early in his career and a terrible Ottawa team this past year. He is 28 years old and in the prime of his career.
Yet some of you want Gaborik? Heatley has played all 82 regular season games 4 times, 77 games in one season, and 71 games in another. If it weren't for the accident in 03/04, he would have probably played 70+ games in that season too. 65, 65, 48, 77, 17... those are Gaborik's games played total over the last 5 seasons. Plus, on top of that, Gaborik is going to command 8+ million, whereas Heatley is signed at a cap hit of 7.5 million per year. He just completed his first year of the contract, and earned 10 million, meaning in the last 2 years, he will only earn 6 million and 5 million, which would hypothetically make him easier to trade, if necessary.
Moving Gomez+ for Heatley would give us the great scoring winger we so obviously lack, would probably make Drury a potent offensive force again, would open up a 3rd line center spot for Arten Anisimov (who appears to be ready) and a defense spot for Sanguinetti or another deserving young player, would clear cap space since Callahan is going to command much more than his most recent 600k salary, cap space that is needed to sign Dubinsky and Staal long term.
I hate to lose Callahan and the first rounder, but Heatley is a top 10 offensive player, and they don't come cheap.
