Rangers 8, Oilers 2

The New York Rangers (9-7-1) defeated the Edmonton Oilers (4-9-3) by the score of 8-2, today. For box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...i can recap today's game in two words: Marian Gaborik.

...welcome to the season Alex Frolov.

...first time we saw the real Boogaard. He was throwing bombs against another big tough enforcer.

...EC looks like he wants to stay on a line with Gabby with three assists and a +5.

...nice to see the refs not take a goal away from the Rangers for once (see Anisimov goal).

...anyone still want to tell me Boyle's not all star?

...cheap shot from Avery, but loved the old school scrum afterward.

...this is going to be a looooong season for Tom Renney.

...Biron looked like he was going to have a tough day after the second goal but kudos to him for toughning up and holding the Oilers scoreless the rest of the way.

...loved the snarl from Staal today. Would love to see him play like that more often.

...more good afternoon periods today than the last three years combined.

...in what should be a much more competitive game the Rangers head to Pittsburgh to face Cindy and the Pens tomorrow.

That replay of Avery is indefensible. The post-game comments (or absence thereof) from the players, commentators and torts seem to reflect that same sentiment.

A stupid move to tarnish an otherwise great rangers effort

This was a great game. However the question remains... What to do when Drury & Prospal come back?

for what its worth, smid had his gloves off. just didnt throw a punch in time. carcillo vs gabby anyone? gabby just happened to react quick enough but still get pummelled.

entertaining game against a weak opponent.

We cant get ahead of ourselves we played a terrible team with a terrible defense. I think the difference here is guys were able to finish and put the puck in. Gaborik looked phenomenal. Even though Oilers defense is atrocious Bulin is still a decent goalie. Kevin, lets see if Staal can do what he did today against the Pens tomorrow.

Did any Rangers get suspended tomorrow for that scrum after the Avery fight? Also thought what Avery did was legal. The guy was challenging Avery. Avery is FAST. He threw his gloves off so quick and knocked him down. The guy was scared like a bitch.

WAS not a cheap shot, it sounds foolish to say otherwise. Look at the clip. Smid was looking at Avery, and also dropped his gloves before he got hit. He shouldn't have gone looking for Avery after a legal hit.He got Cold Cocked. Anyone that has ever been in a fight knows you have to be ready, particularly when you go looking for it, anyone who has not might say otherwise. Be that as it may,it was a good win against a poor team.

Might wanna change your re-cap to say Oilers instead of Sabres...

The way Boogard starts a fight has to be one of the most intimidating things I've ever seen. Just standing there, perfectly still with his hands up, glaring at the guy he is about to beat the snot out of. It's almost like he's saying, "go ahead, do all your bobbing and weaving and dancing around...you're still going to get your ass kicked."

mattias - those guys are not ready to december and in case of prospal late december. so see no reason whatsoever to fret about it now

avery was a dirty hit after saying he wouldn't fight the guy. would say i lost respect for him butt hen i never respected him to begin with

i guess with all the kids in attendance they either fell in love with the sport or hate it after this one

kevin i like boyles play. he's still not an all star. this is the same guy you wanted run out of here in training camp. even keel.

The only downside to todays Ranger game was John Giannone. Yeeesh.

Thanks Desmond. That's what happens when you quickly put together post game notes so you can head out to a kiddie party. Who has a kiddie party at 4pm on a Sunday?

i thought it was a fantastic game, love all the fights and goals. gabbi is back, soo many players played well. i didnt think avery cheap shotted him. i love when avery plays like that, hes putting up great numbers this yea but i havnt seen him agitate that much. he threw that hit and WRECKED smid. i love when avery plays like hat he needs to balance being the good player he is and the agitator .

Was it just me or did it look like Khabibulin, down 7 -2, when he saw Gabby come in on him for a 2nd breakaway, just said screw it and stayed deep in the net so Gabby would shoot, after Gabby made him look so bad with his moves on the 1st one? Thats what it seemed like where I was sitting, and I couldn't stop laughing about it. Or maybe I was Just delerious after seeing 8 goals!

I would like to think that the Rangers somehow knew this would be the last game on the old blog & won it just for you, Kevin.
