Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Markus Naslund has told his Rangers teammates he is retiring despite having one season at $3 million remaining on the two-year, $8 million free agent contract he signed last summer.Brooks also notes, but can't confirm, that Naslund notified GM Glen Sather of his decision at his exit interview on Thursday.
...Naslund definitely wore down as the season progressed and probably realized his best days are behind him. He was a solid signing, who brought veteran leadership to the team, but I'm not crying about his retirement because the Rangers can really use the cap space.

where is the excuse in anything he just said? unless you are speaking in generalities, which if you are...go away... playoffs every year since the lockout. Can you team say the same...NOPE
PERFECT! Things could not have worked out better. I was actually going to suggest that it would be beneficial for the team to put him on waivers and send him down, in order to gain that $4 million in cap space. Now the Rangers will have no problem signing both Callahan and Dubinsky, and should look into locking Marc Staal up long term before dipping into the free agency market.

I liked the signing of him over last summer, but I don't mind seeing him go.
I kinda expected this as Nazzy will not fit into Torts system anymore.
