A night after combining for eight points Derek Stepan, Evgeni Grachev and Ryan Bourque were held scoreless. Grachev didn't even register a shot on goal.
Gordie Clark said this about the game...
“The goaltending was really solid at both ends. Talbot came up with a number of big saves,” said Gordie Clark, Director, Player Personnel, New York Rangers. “Down at the other end, we were just taking shot after shot. We had breakaways from (Derek) Stepan and (Christian) Thomas and he stopped those. He also took one in the face. If (Carolina goaltender Mike) Murphy doesn’t throw that game at us, we were carrying most of the play the whole night.”
...wow talking about crashing back to earth. After yesterday's performance I was ready to put Stepan and Grachev on the Rangers first line and now Grachev can't even get a shot on goal.
...these guys are still young and learning, so I'm not going to be overly critical. Especially when Bob McKenzie tweets this...
Ex-Badgers Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh are the two NYR prospects here in TC who look to have legit shot of cracking NHL roster.

Crashing back to earth? C'mon Kevin, they were blanked by an exceptional performance from Murphy before losing to a breakaway after hitting the post, that's all. It happens, they'll move on.
Yeah Alex you're probably right. A little too harsh. Just a little disappointing to come up goose eggs after such a great first game.
McKenzie's tweet makes me wonder--is that due to the strength of their play and overall talent level, or is it due to the lack of depth in their respective positions on the NHL team they belong to?
they both desperately need to develop more and it would be a huge mistake to have them on the roster to start the season
by both i meant the forwards not mcdonagh
My ideal situation is to have Stepan and Grachev playing together in the A' this year and then both come up next year. That allows chemistry to build between the two on what should be a winning team, and gives the Rangers two thirds of a line straight off the bat next season.
